Wow! Here comes Setsuden-mushi.! Chapter 5 Parents of Setsuden-mushi 5.4 Where Setsuden-mushi works 5.4.1 ISO 14001 and purchasers

 Since Setsuden-mushi was developed in June 1994, the overwhelming majority of purchases have been made by private companies, and the hurdle for municipalities and ordinary households is still high.

 

5.4.1 ISO 140 01 and purchasers

 As of June 2000, the number of companies in Japan that have obtained ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management audits, was 3609. (Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, July 12, 2000). As of June 2000, The rate of increase in acquisitions shows a quadratic increase after April 1999.

 The motivation for purchasing Setsuden-mushi is that environmentally conscious companies, municipalities, and organizations adopt it as one of their annual environmental improvement tools. They are environmentally conscious companies, municipalities, and organizations that have already ISO 14001 certified or are planning to become ISO 14001 certified. The municipalities and companies that have adopted Setsuden-mushi so far are as follows (as of December 1999).

 

Large volume customers (titles omitted, in no particular order)

NEC (47 units, via Lion Office Equipment), Yokogawa Electric (50 units, via Maeda Eco Green), Sony (7 units), Hanyu Sanyo Electronics (20 units), Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (60 units), Tokyo Post Office (10 units), Mitaka City Hall (30 units), Onomichi City (13 units), Tozai Bussan (75 units), Izumo Bamboo Products (52 units), Nikken (50 units), etc.

 

Public organizations (titles omitted, in no particular order)

Energy Conservation Center, Hiroshima Prefectural Government, Okayama Prefectural Government, Fukuyama City, Seki City Hall, Chubu Technical Office of the Ministry of Construction, Citizen's Forum for Natural Energy Promotion, etc.

 

Universities and research institutes (titles omitted, in no particular order)

 Meiji University, Hokuriku Advanced Institute of Technology, Shinshu University, National Institute of Electronics Technology, Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, Hiroshima Prefectural Eastern Industrial Technology Center, etc.
